: Is it best practice to chemical conversion coat (MIL-C-5541D) aluminum(6061-T6) before hard anodizing (MIL-A-8625F)?
Paul,
Chemical Conversion coat (Chromate) is used as a primer for any masking that might be done to a part prior to hard coat. After being masked, the remainder of the Chromate is stripped before the Hard Coat process. Without stripping the Conversion Coat, you will most likely end up with a cosmetically poor finish.
