July 13, 2010

Wauconda, Illinois - Building on the success of the Anodizing Essentials Workshop, the Aluminum Anodizers Council (AAC) has developed the next level of anodizing education in the AAC School for Anodizers program with the new Anodizing Quality Workshop. The new workshop has been scheduled for two occasions during the latter half of 2010. The AAC Anodizing Quality Workshop will debut during Aluminum Week, a new event organized by the Aluminum Extruders Council (AEC) and The Aluminum Association scheduled for September 20-23 at the Hyatt Regency O’Hare in Rosemont, Illinois, near Chicago. The half-day workshop, included as part of the AEC Extrusion Symposium program, is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon, September 22. In addition, the Anodizing Quality Workshop will be offered as a value-added option during the 19th Annual International Anodizing Conference organized by AAC and scheduled for October 5-7 at the Marriott Château Champlain in Montréal, Québec, Canada. The full-day workshop, which includes a plant tour to architectural anodizer A&D Prevost, is scheduled for Tuesday, October 5.

The advanced-level class moves beyond the anodizing basics to address quality and process issues commonly faced by anodizers. The first half of the workshop will consist of overviews of substrate manufacturing processes and metal finishing, followed by recognizing and troubleshooting anomalies that may manifest through the processes discussed. The second half of the workshop will consist of a series of interactive “Troubleshooting Stations” where process experts will host small groups to discuss various individual problems, building on the principles presented in the first half of the workshop.

Due to the partnership with the AEC Extrusion Symposium in Chicago in September, the half-day AAC Anodizing Quality Workshop will focus on extrusion alloys. Program topics will include:

  • Extrusion Process Review
  • Anodizing in a Nutshell
  • Guidelines for Effective Troubleshooting
  • Process Parameters and Their Effects on Extrusion Alloys and Tips for Successful Processing
  • Breakout Tabletop Discussions of Anomalies (defects), their Causes and Cures
  • Question-and-Answer session.

The full-day Anodizing Quality Workshop during the 2010 Anodizing Conference in October in Montréal will include a plant tour to architectural anodizer A & D Prevost. Workshop topics include:

  • Manufacturing Processes Review
  • Anodizing in a Nutshell
  • Guidelines for Effective Troubleshooting
  • Process Parameters, their Effects and Tips for Successful Processing
  • Breakout Tabletop Discussions of Anomalies (defects), their Causes and Cures
  • Question-and-Answer session.
