Call for Posters

The Aluminum Anodizers Council (AAC) invites students engaged in electrochemistry, metallurgy, chemistry, materials science, and related engineering disciplines to present their work at a poster session at the 20th Annual International Anodizing Conference & Exposition in Tempe, Arizona.

This three-day comprehensive event offers education, information and networking geared specifically to the anodizing community. AAC is a trade association that deals with the science, technology, and business of light metal surface finishing, principally aluminum anodizing.

Length: Abstracts for poster presentation should not exceed 200 words.
Extended Due Date: Abstracts should be submitted by March 1, 2011.
Submission details: Send to AAC at mail@anodizing.org

The AAC Poster Session provides a forum where students may present their research in surface science, surface treatment, electrochemical finishing and other relevant technologies to an interested audience of industry professionals. The goal is to present academic and industrial-related research and development in the field of metal surface science and technology.

Suggested poster topics include but are not limited to:

  • Surface modification of aluminum and aluminum alloys by way of anodic oxidation
  • Applications of the anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) as a stand-alone finish or as a template for nanostructures
  • Other light metal surface science (e.g. magnesium, titanium, etc.)
  • Other electrochemical methods for light metal surface modification
  • Other non-electrochemical techniques
  • Novel analyses and test methods for light metals surfaces
  • New ways to implement existing methods and applications.

Conference Poster Session

Students will be invited to display their posters Tuesday evening, October 6, 2011 at the welcome reception as well as throughout the day on Wednesday, October 5, during the hours that the Anodizing Expo is open. Students will be required to staff their posters and be available to elaborate on their work Wednesday at the conclusion of the conference sessions. It is at this time that the judging of the posters will take place.

Guidelines

A poster is a graphically based approach to presenting research. An articulate, expressive poster will contain only the crucial points of research. Please make sure that the title and contents of the poster match the information submitted in the abstract. The use of color and graphics are recommended and encouraged. Posters should be mounted on foam core and contents of the poster should be clearly legible from a distance of five feet. AAC will supply easels for each poster presentation. The presenter is responsible for taking down the poster. AAC is not responsible for any damage or disappearance. The Council will not be responsible for posters that are not collected.

The AAC Executive Committee or their designees will judge the posters, and a prize will be awarded to the three best poster presentations.

Abstract Content, Style and Submission Guidelines
Undergraduate and graduate students are welcome to submit an abstract for consideration.
Students should follow the guidelines outlined below for their Student Poster Session Abstract.

Length: Abstracts for poster presentation should not exceed 200 words.
Due Date: Abstracts should be submitted by March 1, 2011.
Submission details: Send to AAC at mail@anodizing.org

Each submitted abstract must include the following and carefully adhere to these guidelines:

  • Title. Complete poster presentation title must be concise and descriptive and must be capitalized, including subtitle.
  • Author(s). List the full first and last names of each author, with the presenting author listed first and include his/her affiliation information below this item. Use superscripts to identify multiple authors with different affiliations.
  • Presenter’s full contact information. Include name, address, phone number, e-mail.
  • Instructor information. Include the name, address, phone number and e-mail of your academic advisor or professor.
  • Body of Abstract. Abstracts must not exceed 200 words and should include a short, concise summary of the planned poster presentation. Emphasize the results of the research or the practical application of the work.
  • Keywords. Capitalize all KEYWORDS and include no more than three.

Abstracts must be submitted electronically by attaching the Microsoft® Word file containing the abstract to an e-mail message. Along with the abstract, send a short statement of intent to participate and proof of student status (copy of current registration, letter from academic advisor, etc.).

Send the statement of intent, proof of student status and abstract to mail@anodizing.org.

Notification
Students will be notified if their abstracts are accepted in March 2011. Drafts with relevant poster content are due by April 8, 2011. If the poster draft is accepted, students will be informed by May 6, 2011.
